expand

When you choose reclaimed wood, you can be certain that you are minimising the environmental impact of your project. For a start, using reclaimed wood reduces virgin timber harvesting. It also takes much less time and energy to refurbish wood that has been rescued than to harvest, transport and process virgin wood. Also, by extending its life you are ensuring that the carbon captured over the tree’s lifetime remains in the the wood. And you’re keeping good, useful timber out of landfill.

Can I Install Reclaimed Wood Over Underfloor Heating?
expand

We strongly advise against installing solid wood planks over underfloor heating. Solid reclaimed wood planks are much more susceptible to unwanted movement: they can warp, cup, or buckle when there are any significant temperature changes. This will never stop, no matter how old the timber is.

Changes in moisture content due to the continually changing temperatures delivered by underfloor heating systems will likely make solid floorboards expand and contract at unacceptable levels. This movement puts a lot of stress on the flooring and can damage it.

Where Does Your Reclaimed Wood Come From?
expand

Sourced from across Europe, our reclaimed timber boards have been rescued from historic homes, old railway cars, barns, warehouses, and factories. The boards come in many different forms, aesthetics, and varying specifications — from weathered, original-faced oak and exotic hardwoods, to clean-looking, planed, smooth softwoods.

How Long Should Reclaimed Wood be Acclimatised Before Installation?
expand

Unlike our extremely stable engineered planks, solid reclaimed boards are quite sensitive to changes in moisture content, and they have a tendency to expand and contract when there are changes in environmental conditions. For this reason, you should allow approximately 3 weeks in suitable conditions (with consistent temperature and relative humidity) for your reclaimed boards to become as stable as possible before installing them. So, make your rescued boards feel at home.

How Much Wastage Do I Need For Reclaimed Wood Flooring?
expand

For reclaimed timber products, we advise a higher percentage of wastage of around 15-20%. Having this extra material is particularly important if you need to cut back to fit directly over joists or battens. Due to the nature of reclaimed timber, there’s also likely to be some sections of board with more significant imperfections than you’d find in new planks.
