Named as RIBA’s North East Building of the Year for 2024, this impressive timber tower, located in the marketplace of the town of Bishop Auckland, is intended to create a focal point for the historic town and an entrance to its grade I-listed 13th Century castle.

Níall McLaughlin Architects chose Chaunceys to supply our exquisite prime grade oak Versailles panels with a bespoke light oak finish to create a welcoming and impressive space for visitors. The panels were supplied at the bespoke size of 597mm x 597mm to fit perfectly over the room’s raised access flooring.

Judges described the building, which was inspired by medieval siege towers, as “impressive and enticing”.
