Milky Coffee light engineered oak wood flooring in Cambridge home renovation project

Westerdahl undertook the sensitive transformation of this Victorian home in Cambridge, opening up the property with a striking refurbishment with an open-plan layout. Using our engineered oak flooring, the London-based architecture studio’s design enhances the home’s character while introducing light, volume, and a deep connection to the surrounding garden.

At the heart of the scheme is our 300mm-wide, extra-long Milky Coffee engineered oak flooring. Running throughout the reconfigured space, these impressive light oak planks lend a natural warmth and sense of flow to the space.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful material choices can elevate modern extensions. The soft, neutral tone of this wide oak floor complements the kitchen’s hand-crafted walnut joinery and wood-encased columns. It was shortlisted for the RIBA East Awards in 2025 and the AJ Architecture Awards in 2024.

This expansive floor acts as a calm, grounding element. The long lines of these light-toned planks visually extend the space toward the outdoors. The oak’s natural variation and movement complement the garden views through generous patio doors and glazing. As a result, the transition between inside and out feels effortless.
