Brown Oak

Brown Oak is naturally coloured by the bracket fungus Fistulina hepatica, commonly called the “Beefsteak Fungus”, which slowly infests the tree, creating wood with a rich brown colour. The fungus causes dramatic and varied colouration throughout the tree, running to a deep, solid brown colour in the heartwood.

Due to the infrequency of this natural process, Brown oak is rare and considered very valuable as a strong, durable wood that makes for truly unique timber flooring.

Our Earth Collection showcases wood flooring that has been transformed by specialised tone-enhancing processes and natural occurrences associated with the oak’s growing environment. The enhanced natural colours of the boards are either enriched further with a protective clear oil or combined with white-tinted oils to highlight the grain, delivering greater tonal complexity. Due to the natural reactions involved in producing these boards, expect increased tonal variation for a more characterful appearance.
